This 1,300-square-foot home had to do two things: work for a family of three, and display the owner's treasured collection of Bearbricks and model toys.
The couple love stylish, playful design, so the Artwill Interior Design House team used plenty of curved lines and display space to make every corner of the home interesting.
Artwill Interior Design creative director and founder Regina Kwok explains: "The living room is the focal point of the whole home. The zoning here is simple and led by colour. Because the owner's models are so colourful and eye-catching, the living room is kept in muted tones for visual balance. The walls are pale green, paired with charcoal grey and steel, with a dark green sofa. The wall behind the sofa holds shelving worked into a curved design, and the shelf backing carries green three-dimensional ribbing for a tactile, playful touch."
The entry floor is laid in dark tiles and the hall in white marble; the difference in tone separates the two zones by function. The hall opens onto an open kitchen, which lifts the overall sense of space. Its oval dining table is slightly raised and irregular at one end, both for style and so the differing heights let one table serve as both dining table and bar counter.
In the master bedroom the timber floor feels warm underfoot. The palette here is charcoal grey, grey-blue and royal blue, with steel bringing a rugged edge. The headboard is pieced together from black and grey upholstered panels, steady and composed without losing style. The walls are papered in a faux-cement finish, and light washing across walls, skirting and ceiling builds rich visual layers.
The daughter's room is two rooms knocked into one, in a sea-blue palette with pink upholstery. Between the upper and lower bunks runs a whimsical slide, turning the whole sleeping zone into a children's playground. A sliding door separates the sleeping zone from the play zone, and the play zone connects to the bathroom, so when guests visit the door can close and the young owner can play with them in the play zone.
