Size : 489 sq. ft.
Location: New Territories
Our Role : Interior Design & Build

The owners of this flat fall well into the definition of LOHAS, which means they wanted a home that can transform as easily into a relaxing living space as into a working studio whenever they needed. So the designer created a design with home as the main concept and a working studio as the supporting theme.

The layout of the flat is changed to introduce the flexibility needed by the owners. The designer removes a partition wall to create a shower room and laundry room. Taking advantage of the 14-foot ceiling height, the designer creates a mezzanine. It has two functions: bedroom and meeting room/studio when the bed is replaced with a work desk and chairs.

Leading up to the mezzanine is a floating wooden staircase embellished with a black, steel recessed handrail that is backlit. Plants and loungy wooden furniture adorn the space, embodying the owners’ cheerful and playful personalities.

Overall, cool colors such as black and grey are matched with warm yellow to set the flat’s tone. The kitchen is also yellow, sporting an open bar design, so that the view is not obstructed. At the entrance, there is a tailor-made cabinet with an upholstered divan. It forms an entrance lobby for visitors to remove their shoes when the flat is used as a home, and a waiting area for clients when this flat is used as a work studio.
