South China Building
The client was a family business looking to revamp their office space. From the beginning, we took great care to understand the company’s way of operation and observed the increasingly important role played by the younger generation of the family. We quickly took to the cue and decided on a mix of traditional and new as the design theme.
The owners mainly used the office to meet with clients and business associates, and house a small team of staff. The layout was highly functional: a large reception area and adjoining relaxation room to welcome visitors and staff; a main space to house the staff; a large rectangular boardroom for meetings; and two additional rooms to serve as the owners’ individual offices.
Key requirements for the design were durability and lasting styles. In contrast to the practical layout, we added many colorful furnishings and accessories and bright lights to inject a sense of freshness and modernity. We used cozy and warm materials like wood as reminders of the family-business culture, and juxtaposed them with elements such as marble floors and plenty of green plants to echo the company’s long-term growth aspirations.
