The owner was a lady at a point in life where she wanted to significantly upgrade her lifestyle and quality of life through her living space. With only one person in the household, it was obvious that we should reconfigure the original three-room layout into a one-bedroom plus leisure room apartment. The owner treasured spaciousness so much that we even took down the kitchen walls to maximize the living room space. The only partition left in the home worked to delineate this social space from her private room, with a feature sliding door as an opening.

Hosting friends was an important part of her home life. We took great care to maintain the sense of spaciousness throughout. The only piece of furniture not pushed up against the walls in the living/dining/cooking area was a multifunctional coffee table that transformed into a dining table for eight. This yielded a lot of mingling room, even if the guest count ran above ten.

Like many in Hong Kong, she had a lot of clothes and “stuff” to store. We put in a walk-in closet and a laundry room – with washer/dryer and space for drying clothes – a coveted rarity in Hong Kong. Simple lines and colors throughout the house served well as a white canvas for the owner to display treasured souvenirs from her many travels around the world.
