Circle Plaza
The client was a boutique financial services firm looking to create an office that could double as an extension of his home. Although this space needed to serve a dual purpose, letting elements of work and play interact too fluidly with each other would have risked a design that satisfied neither. So we took advantage of the unit’s 14-feet high ceiling to create an office in the mezzanine. The office was enclosed so the occupant could concentrate well on his work when inside, but also had a large window that looked over the rest of the unit and out into the street to ensure he wouldn’t feel cooped up.
He had a big collection of art objects and needed room to display them. The space under the mezzanine made for a perfect area to display and store the owner’s art collection. The lack of natural light ensured that objects would not be damaged, and the underside of the mezzanine allowed for track lightings to be positioned flexibly as in a gallery.
The owner’s family came regularly to use the unit as an extension of their home. As the centrepiece of the unit, we put in a full sofa set and coffee table for the owner’s family when they would come to enjoy the home theatre on the weekends. Knowing that the owner’s sports club was nearby, we put in a full-feature bathroom so that he could come here to shower up and chill out.
