Moving to a different phase in life is often a good timing for renovating one’s living space, so the owner couple decided to refresh this ten-plus-year-old flat. With two sons who are now adults and not often staying with them, the 1,500-square-foot space now needs to be reconfigured for them, their daughter, and their increasing need for storage space.

The designers remove all but two partition walls in the flat to create an open-plan living area, but also maintain bedrooms to ensure privacy for all occupants. By tightening up unused counter and dead space in the flat’s two bathrooms, the designer is also able to create a walk-in closet for the master bedroom, as well as build in a room-wide set of closets for the daughter’s bedroom.

Much-desired storage space has been fitted into all different corners and niches in the flat. Partitioning between the boys’ beds doubles as a shelving unit, and the wide windowsill in the daughter’s bedroom is custom-designed into a set of drawer units, and the whole back wall to the dining room is made into full-height cupboards.

Use of a diverse selection of colors and material finishes off the design in a fresh and warm way. Mixing wood, leather, rose-gold stainless steel, black marble, pleated wallpaper, and silk fabric ensure infinite novelty in the flat. The flat’s base canvas is a neutral set of white, charcoal, black, and natural wood, but pops of pink, denim blue, and lilac work together to produce a low-profile sense of luxury.
