The owners were a couple whom we had designed for several years back when they had just gotten married.
Having stayed in touch with the owners since the last project, it took us little time to gain a deep understanding of their lifestyle and preferences.
With two young boys now, they needed a different space to raise the family.
A foremost requirement was clearly generous storage space for the children’s clothes and toys. But unlike their previous home, we enclosed most of this storage space to make sure the children could run around safely. As the boys were still young, we designed a bedroom for both of them as well as a separate playroom that could be easily transformed into a bedroom when they grew older and needed their own space. We used grey fittings and tiles for many areas around the house to make cleaning easier.
With the children and their apartment’s contract situation, they could not afford a long construction period.
To meet the two-month project time, we had to work on several parts of the home simultaneously. But the owner’s desire to keep a Chinese-influenced theme as in their previous home helped greatly by reducing the time needed to source new pieces of furniture and accessories.
